DefenceTax was proud to spend the day at the Keilor East RSL Veterans Expo, connecting with veterans, Defence families, retirees and community organisations.
For us, the day was about more than tax. It was an opportunity to listen, understand and support people within the Defence and veteran community in a relaxed, welcoming setting.
01 / Listening
Listening to the people we support
We spoke with attendees at different stages of their working and retirement journeys. Some had questions about previous-year tax returns; others wanted to understand their current position, future obligations or when professional help might be useful.
The most valuable part was hearing concerns directly and offering helpful guidance where we could. Several visitors also took information for family members and friends who might need support later.
02 / Shared stories
Stories of service and connection
The conversations reached beyond tax. Garry brought along his uncle’s Army service medals, connected with service in Papua New Guinea and the Kokoda campaign. They prompted visitors to share stories, experiences and memories of service.
Those exchanges reminded us that understanding the people behind a tax question matters as much as understanding the paperwork.
03 / A little fun
A little fun along the way
Visitors were invited to take part in our community lucky draw for a $200 JB Hi-Fi Gift Card. Congratulations to Peter Allen, our randomly selected winner, and thank you to everyone who joined in.

04 / Looking ahead
Building relationships beyond the Expo
Meeting other organisations and people who work closely with veterans, ADF members and their families opened up conversations about future community events, information sessions and support initiatives.
We are grateful to Keilor East RSL for welcoming DefenceTax. Days like this help us hear people’s concerns first-hand and keep improving how we support Defence members and their families.
We look forward to joining more RSL, veteran and Defence community activities in the future.
