Multi-year late tax help for Defence members

Overdue returns can feel harder the longer they sit. We help Australian Defence Force members, veterans, reservists and defence families work out what is outstanding, gather the right records and move forward one year at a time.

A manageable process

How we help you get back on track

You do not need to solve every missing year before speaking with us. Start with what you know and we will help organise the rest.

1

Identify outstanding years

We clarify the years involved, any ATO contact and the income or deductions that may need attention.

2

Gather records securely

We provide a tailored checklist and a secure upload option for documents. Do not email sensitive identity documents.

3

Prepare and lodge

Each return is prepared and discussed with you before lodgement, with priorities agreed where several years are involved.

What to expect

A clear plan for incomplete records and changing circumstances

Late returns often cross postings, deployments, civilian work, rental property or family changes. We help separate each year and focus on evidence that is still available.

  • Review outstanding years and ATO correspondence
  • Identify Defence income, allowances and eligible work expenses
  • Work through rental property, investments or other complex items
  • Explain secure record collection and next steps before lodgement

Common questions

Multi-year late tax FAQs

What if I have several overdue tax returns?

We can help identify which years are outstanding, explain the records needed and prepare a practical lodgement plan. Each year is assessed on its own facts and available records.

Can DefenceTax help if the ATO has contacted me?

Yes. Tell us what the ATO sent and any deadline shown. We can explain the next steps and help you respond, but urgent notices should not be ignored.

Why are date of birth and TFN optional?

They help us identify your tax record when you choose to provide them, but you can register without them. Supporting identity documents should be sent later through Defence Express, not ordinary email.

Can I get help from outside Melbourne?

Yes. DefenceTax supports Australian Defence Force members, veterans, reservists and defence families Australia-wide using phone and secure online services.
